“I am an ambassador of joy, a powerhouse of creativity; art yearns to be expressed through me.”

– Abigail Aska

A native of New Jersey, Abby uses the pronouns she and they and is proud of their genderqueer identity. Abby expresses their creativity through multiple mediums including cutting and shaping hair. They love to help their friends discover their most confident selves through collaborative vision for their hair.
Abby first fell in love with barbering and hairstyling after their partner asked them if they could try giving her a shape-up following an unfortunate haircut she’d gotten from a nearby barbershop. They took to it immediately, and they have been eager to hone their skills as a barber and hairstylist ever since. Abby also has special interest in the mechanics, maintenance, styling, and shaping of curly hair. As the world of barbering tends to be full of very masculine spaces, Abby hopes to foster an approach to barbering that centers non-binary perspectives with a feminine flair.
In addition to barbering, Abby is a classically trained musician with a sweet spot for jazz and indie music. She teaches marching band to New Jersey high school students each fall and has some openings in her private lesson studio for clarinet, flute, and saxophone lessons. Abby is part of the duo The Brunswick Union and enjoys performing at open mics and covering songs originally recorded by men with her bandmate. They were recently finalists in the queer music competition, Gender Bender! Stay tuned for more of their performances, and original song recordings.
